Bat removal in Westminster, California
Westminster—90,911 people at the 2020 Census—sits in west Orange County between Garden Grove, Huntington Beach, Fountain Valley and Santa Ana. Most of its homes are postwar tracts, and bats use the same small gaps here that they use across the basin. California Bat Removal Pros provides humane bat inspection, one-way exclusion, sealing with custom inserts (not spray foam) and optional attic guano cleanup across Westminster, with a two-year written warranty on whole-structure work.

Bats likely in Westminster (Orange County)
Based on known California ranges and Westminster's habitat, these are the species most likely around local buildings. Which bat is in your roof is confirmed at inspection. CDFW's Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve (more than 1,300 acres of marsh, mudflats and dunes in neighboring Huntington Beach) and the flood control channels crossing west Orange County provide insects near homes.
- Mexican free-tailed bat (Tadarida brasiliensis): The bat we most often find in Southern California buildings. Colonies use tight, hot gaps: under clay tile, in expansion joints, behind fascia and in bridge seams.
- Big brown bat (Eptesicus fuscus): A sturdy, adaptable species that roosts in attics, wall voids and soffits. It tolerates cooler weather and may stay in structures outside summer.
- Yuma myotis (Myotis yumanensis): Closely tied to water. It forages low over rivers, ponds and channels and will roost in buildings and under bridges nearby.
- California myotis (Myotis californicus): A small crevice-roosting bat found widely across the region, including in buildings, under bark and in rock cracks.
- Western mastiff bat (Eumops perotis): California's largest bat and a Species of Special Concern. It mostly roosts in high cliff crevices and occasionally in tall buildings. You are more likely to hear its loud calls overhead than to find it in a house.

Westminster roof types & where bats get in
Single-story 1950s–60s stucco tract homes with composition shingle or concrete tile, older Midway City and Barber City-era houses, and flat-roof commercial plazas in Little Saigon.
Entry points we check first on Westminster homes:
- gaps where fascia board meets stucco or the roof deck
- clay or concrete tile ridge and eave closures (bird stops missing or broken)
- gable and attic vents with torn or missing screens
- stucco weep screed separations at the foundation line and wall-to-roof transitions
- open or loose soffit panels and rafter tails
- parapet caps, coping and expansion joints on flat or low-slope roofs
Bats can fit through gaps of about 3/8 inch (California Dept. of Food & Agriculture vertebrate pest handbook). Not sure? Use our signs-you-have-bats checklist.
Westminster climate & bat season
Westminster sits on the flat west side of Orange County, a few miles inland from the coast, with mild winters and warm summer evenings. Stucco and tile rooflines still warm up enough in summer to draw maternity colonies, and salt air ages sealants and vent screens.
Maternity season rules for Westminster bat exclusion
California treats bats as protected nongame mammals, so they may not be killed, poisoned or trapped. Exclusion is the humane, legal route. UC IPM advises against excluding colonies when flightless young could be present, usually May through September in California, because the parents get shut out and the pups starve inside the walls. We inspect and plan during that window, then exclude once the pups can fly. Fall, winter and early spring are the usual exclusion months. The CDFW bats page covers safety and conflict guidance, and you can report a colony to CDFW. Timing source: UC IPM bats. Guano health: CDC on histoplasmosis.

The City's own history says the residential tracts built from the 1920s through the 1950s are still a prominent part of Westminster, that the population roughly quadrupled from about 2,500 in 1942 to nearly 10,800 in 1956, and that it more than doubled again in the 1960s, from 25,000 to 60,000, when most of today's neighborhoods were built. That means a lot of single-story stucco ranch homes with composition shingle or concrete tile, open or vented eaves, fascia boards meeting stucco, gable vents and stucco weep screeds, along with older Midway City and Barber City-era houses and outbuildings. Little Saigon, along Bolsa Avenue on the Westminster–Garden Grove line, adds flat-roof commercial strips and plazas with parapets, mechanical curbs and expansion joints. UC IPM says the bats that most often use structures in California urban areas are Mexican free-tailed bats, big brown bats, Yuma myotis and other Myotis, and pallid bats, and that bats can squeeze through openings as small as about 1/4 inch. We confirm the species and map every entry point before any exclusion device goes on.
Bat seasonality around Westminster
UC IPM advises against excluding a colony while flightless young may be present, usually May through September in California, and notes that most bats leave buildings in late fall. Late fall and winter are therefore the usual Westminster exclusion window. The California Department of Public Health's provisional 2026 table lists 31 rabid bats in Orange County from January 1 through October 14—county-wide lab results, mostly sick or grounded bats, not a count of bats living in Westminster. Winters are mild, so a bat can still turn up in a heated building; call any month if you hear scratching, smell ammonia or find guano.
Neighborhoods & landmarks we know
We cover all of Westminster, including the neighborhoods around Sigler Park and Westminster Boulevard, the Little Saigon district along Bolsa Avenue, the tracts near Westminster Mall and the I-405, and the edges of unincorporated Midway City. CDFW's Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve—more than 1,300 acres of mudflats, salt and freshwater marshes and coastal dunes in neighboring Huntington Beach—and the county flood control channels that cross west Orange County give bats insects to feed on near homes, without implying a roost on any specific property. Nearby city pages cover Garden Grove, Huntington Beach, Santa Ana, Costa Mesa and Long Beach.
Why hire a local Southern California crew
Most Westminster bat problems are on everyday stucco tract homes and commercial strips, so the work is about finding every small gap—not just the obvious one—and closing it so it lasts in coastal-influenced sun and salt air. We seal with custom inserts and clear products instead of spray foam, provide photo documentation for owners, landlords and property managers, and route Westminster jobs with nearby Garden Grove, Huntington Beach and Santa Ana work when schedules allow.
